Rygate Park in Wellington, NSW boasts all grass athletics facilities, three touch football fields, three junior cricket wickets and two practice cricket nets, all with lights. Managed by Wellington Council, many local schools and sporting associations utilise these facilities for weekend competitions, carnivals and gala days.
As successful tenderers, our team initially undertook the surface preparation. This included an application of a knockdown herbicide and vegetative matter was stripped off the top 25-30mm of the 8,000m2 playing area using our Field Top Maker. The area was deep ripped to alleviate compaction and provide drainage to sub-soil profile to approximately 300mm to create a friable growing medium. This was then Blecavated to a similar depth prior to laser levelling.
A total of 8,000m2 of kikuyu was laid and followed up with topdressing with composted organics to the area including the existing turf on the athletics track.
A new irrigation system was installed to provide head to head coverage across the entire site.
With additional topdressing scheduled for 4 weeks following turf establishment, Wellington Council will take possession of a much improved site for the use of the local Community.
